WEEK 1
MAKING OF A PORTRAIT
The portrait needs to include:

Make an interactive portrait which will talk about a classmate, that will represent a classmate. To achieve that, is necessary to include their characteristics, signature elements.
RESEARCH ABOUT RICK
2
In order to be able to create a visual portrait of Rick, I first had to get to know him better. I managed to do that through the short, half an hour interview and listed personal values.
The first thing we did is marked 5 most personal values with a sticky dot and then talked through them.
Secondly, we had few questions which helped us develop and shape the conversation. Starting with one of the things we overcame, the thing we are most proud of, the situation with which we helped inspire another person etc.
Rick's 5 most important personal values:
friendships
achievement
humor
One of the most important findings was that Rick appreciates and respects about himself is the fact of success at school, since he was accepted to the study of Communication and Multimedia Design he believes in himself more. It makes him extremely proud to be able to study what he wants and to be happy while doing it.
Another thing is that he likes to make others happy with the designs which he is creating, he likes seeing people being satisfied with websites he creates.
Beside that football was a big part of his life, being a part of the team. He was known as one of the people with good spirit.
People know him as a joker, he likes to laugh.
PROCESS OF MAKING THE PORTRAIT
First step towards making the portrait was to draw a portrait of a person we were creating the portrait for, instead of looking and drawing we did it without looking, by drawing in a bag. It resulted in a continuous line drawing which you can see on the right.

BARE CONDUCTIVE WORKSHOP
image

sound

interaction

Image has to trigger the sound, it could be in whichever way, drawing, self-made object.
Trigger supposed to be using conductive material, it needs to reflect classmate's character.
Sound has to be free sound mp4, could be self-recorded sound.
creativity
loyalty
creating a 3D paper structure
While collecting the ideas for a portrait, I decided to do a bit of research on what portraits of people can look like, and I came to the conclusion that there is multiple ways of presenting these. She are a bit more abstract than others, and I decided to go for a bit more abstract one which includes elements of Rick in a bit more tactile way. I decided to incorporate his passion for websites, his passion for football, jokes and school improving perspective.
conductive cut football field
UV printing the background
laser cut portrait outline
conductive stairs
portrait foam
To be able to incorporate the sound into the portrait, we had a workshop in which we got to know a bit more about the conductive materials and how to make triggers for the sound with the help of the graphic plate.
We made a test trigger circle and connected it to the computer to manipulate the sounds.
END RESULT
The portrait which includes the stairs which refer to Rick's improving at school, background of UV printed website mould, playful fabric which connects to his funny characteristics and paper structure. Beside that it includes as well the laser cutter outline portrait made out of plexiglass glass and inside fuller parts of the portrait which are sticked onto conductive foam and lastly the football field with conductive yarn.

The triggers in my portrait are football field, the stairs, website pictures and Rick's portrait. The sounds you can find underneath.
